Job Title: Kennel Manager / Personal Assistant
 

Reports To:  Owner, Allen & Barbara Simpson

 

Classification: Full time, Salary + Bonuses

 

Position Description: As Kennel Manager / Personal Assistant your primary responsibilities will be to handle the business side of the kennel and oversee the daily kennel operations and increase revenues. Duties of this job revolve around the advanced care of the animals in our facility and the overall organization of the staff and their duties. Thus, it is very important that the manager set the direction for the staff, and follow through with supervision.  This includes hiring/discipline/firing, setting policies, scheduling, staff evaluations, giving direction, constant operational oversight, and general leadership.  While we want a kennel manger who can and will jump in and help out when necessary, the delegate balance of delegation, while increasing business, is the key to success and will be rewarded with bonuses based on revenue.

 

Job Responsibilities:  The jobs essential requirements include, but are not limited to: a passion for dogs and their safety and well being, self-motivation, high energy and the ability to provide outstanding customer service. You will be responsible for all arrival and departure procedures of our guests, will meet and greet our customers in a friendly and professional manner, resolve customer accounts, have the ability to multi-task and handle with ease a high volume of phone calls in a fast paced environment. The kennel manger/personal assistant will not have the responsibility of book keeping.  The kennel is run using Quick Books.  The manager will have to be or become proficient in this software.

 

The Kennel Manager will also be a Personal Assistant to the kennels owners, Allen and Barbara Simpson and reports directly to Barbara for daily assignments.

 

Qualification Requirements:

Minimum 3 years experience in kennel management, hotel management, or Vets office management. 

 

Ability to coordinate and operate Rolling Meadows Academy in owners absents without supervision.

 

Ability to handle the animals in facility with ability to discern when appropriate safety precautions are necessary.


Organization of staff with work flow, work schedules, break schedules, hiring, assist in training of new hires and opening and closing of facility.
 

Ensuring all pet's welfare is priority and paying attention to details, monitoring observation forms and taking needed action regarding the health of the pets in our care.


Phone and direct interaction with veterinarians when necessary.

 

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
High school diploma or equivalent
Must have a Valid driver’s license and transportation
Must be Able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
Must be Able to sustain a 8+ hour day sitting/standing/walking

Salary: Kennel Manager/Personal Assistant starting salary is $ 28,000.00 to $30,000.00 commiserate with experience + profit sharing bonus every 6 months.

Job Title:  Certified Professional Dog Trainer

 

Reports To:  Allen & Barbara Simpson and Kennel Manager

 

Classification: Full time, Salary + Commission + Bonuses

 

Position Summary:  Rolling Meadows Academy of Dog Training, LLC is seeking an experienced dog trainer who is well versed in operant and classical conditioning techniques with a multi-disciplined approach to problem solving pet dog behavior issues.  You will be part of a winning team that provides professional dog training boarding and doggie daycare to companion animals and their pet parents.  You will train and care for our great variety of pet and working dogs, and promote our “humane dog training philosophy" by using positive reinforcement training methods to deliver dog training and behavior modification information to our canine pet friends and their pet parents, helping them strengthen their canine human bond.  The Dog Trainer promotes and conducts private, group and in-kennel dog-training for our pet dog clients.  Assists Rolling Meadows Academy pet dog training customers by determining their needs and sharing product knowledge to suggest the appropriate dog training equipment and supplies.  Evaluate dogs to determine temperament, ability, and aptitude for training.

 

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

The Dog Trainer, under general supervision, performs all phases of private, group and in-kennel dog training, following the policies, procedures and billing guidelines of Rolling Meadows Academy. Participate in the care of guests while in training and boarding. All client services as they pertain to the training division. Consulting with our customers in solving training and behavioral issues in a positive manner that encourages interest and satisfaction.  Helping motivate our customers and their canines to ensure that both achieve success and satisfaction with our dog training educational services.  Be able to speak clearly in front of large groups.  While primarily employed as a dog trainer, the candidate must be a team player, willing to step in and take on additional pet care responsibilities as needed.

 

Specialized Skills and Abilities:

In addition to your regular pet dog training duties, you will have the opportunity to assist in our working dog training program by assisting Owners, Allen and Barbara Simpson in the training and utilization of Police K-9's, Personal Protection Dogs, and Sports Dog Training.  Rolling Meadows Academy trains dogs in Obedience, Behavior Modification, Protection, Criminal Apprehension, Narcotics, Bomb and Arson Detection, Tracking, Evidence/Article Search, Assistance Dogs and Agility Training.  You will assist in the training of working dogs as well as pet dogs in sports title training such as but not limited to Police K-9 Training, Schutzhund (IPO), KNPV, Mondio/French Ring Sports and AKC, UKC title training.

 

You will maintain and assure the safety and health of Rolling Meadow Academy guests.  Interact with Kennel Manager/Staff with regards to scheduling/re-scheduling of appointments, invoicing, client calls and report cards.  Complete report cards in a timely fashion as per policy and general operating procedures.  Maintain group obedience class commissions list per policy and procedures and submit to Kennel Manager.  Educate other Rolling Meadows Academy employees in the importance of good pet training, handling and maintenance of trained dogs in our care.  Provide customer service to include facility tours, client calls and training consultations.  Assist in growing Rolling Meadows Academy's already large, well established customer base by cross selling services between training clients and other clients.  Maintain the cleanliness of the in door training room and outside training grounds.  Educate Rolling Meadows Academy clients in the importance of good pet training and in the products and services we have available to the customer to satisfy these needs.  Using Rolling Meadows Academy's policies and general operating procedures to provide exemplary customer service to all clients.  Maintain proper dog safety protocol for guests and employees.  Maintain equipment in proper repair and store in proper areas.  Complete assigned chores from weekly, biweekly and monthly lists.  Conduct training program to develop desired behavior.  Observe dog's physical condition to detect illness or unhealthy condition requiring medical care.  Keep Owner/Kennel Manager advised of client's progress.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: The dog trainer has no supervisory responsibilities.

Must be Able to sustain a 6-8 hour day standing/walking

Certificates, Education and Memberships:

Trainers must have one of the following, prior to hire for training position.  A nationally accredited dog training certification, have completed an accredited training school or have acceptable work experience in dog training.

Long distance/internet course certifications are not accepted as a primary certification as a Rolling Meadows Academy certified dog trainer. 

The AKC, CGC is not considered a certification for this position.

 

Salary:  Certified Professional Dog Trainer starting salary is $30,000.00 plus group class commission and profit sharing bonus every 6 months.

Job Title: Animal Care Technician
 

Reports To:  Allen & Barbara Simpson and Kennel Manager

 

Classification: Full time, hourly + Bonuses

 

Position Summary: The animal care technician performs all functions necessary for the efficient operation of a full service dog training, boarding and doggie daycare facility.  This is a semi-skilled position performing manual labor work in the care, maintenance, health, and disposition of police k-9's, personal protection and pet dogs under the direct supervision of the kennel manager.  As a Animal Care Technician your job responsibilities will be but not limited to:  Clean and sanitize dog suites and our facility while maintaining high standards of cleanliness, watering, feeding, bathing, and walking the dogs along with cleaning the indoor and outdoor kennel runs as well as the training room, grooming room, office and restroom.  The animal care technician is normally not a front-line position for providing customer service to members of the general public. Personal contact occurs with dogs and other employees of the kennel on a daily basis.

 

Essential Functions: The following statements describe the principal functions of the animal care technician job and its scope of responsibility, but should not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements. Individuals may perform other duties as assigned, including working in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods or otherwise to balance the work load.  The animal care technician cleans and disinfects kennels and cages, including cleaning food bowls and litter pans, mopping, sweeping and using high-pressure water hose to clean floors and walls. Performs repair and routine maintenance of kennels and cages.  Prepares and dispenses food and maintains constant water to dogs/boarders. Unloads and stores food supplies, disinfectants, and animal care equipment.  Performs routine inspections of dogs and their cages to monitor food consumption, behavior, symptoms of disease/sickness, and condition of confined dogs for health and safety purposes.  Assists with administration of dog medications,  heartworm medicine, and controlled substances to animals.  Assists with preparation of delivery of trained adult dogs for sale by kennel owners.  May transport trash and garbage for disposal at drop off location near kennel.  Assists with drop-off and pick-up of incoming dogs. Required to handle potentially dangerous (bite) dogs.  Required to report to work at the appointed hour, as scheduled, and to work the entire assigned schedule.  Maintain routine records, reports, boarding documents.   
 

Supervision:  Lead animal care technician provides immediate direction and supervision to all animal care technicians, student workers and volunteers as directed by Kennel Manager.  Provides guidance, advice and assistance to others on work assignments.  Tracks kennel supply inventory and notifies kennel manager of shortages. 

 

Specialized Skills and Abilities:  Knowledge of dog breed identification.  Knowledge of humane animal care and handling.  Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively with members of the general public when required.  Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.  Ability to take a teamwork approach to the job by cooperating with others, offering to help others when needed, and considering larger organization or team goals rather than individual concerns.  Includes the ability to build a constructive team spirit where team members are committed to the goals and objectives of the team.  Must be able to work independently and in a team environment, and have strong attention to detail and customer service skills. We are open 7 days a week so a flexible schedule must include weekdays, every other weekend and major holidays. Formal animal care and/or cleaning experience preferred but will train the right candidates. Employees must be committed to treating dogs with the kindness and respect our customers have come to respect.
 

Dogs, Supplies, Machines and Equipment:  To accomplish the tasks of this position animal care technicians are required to handle, lift, and use the following: Small, Medium and large breed dogs, high and normal pressure water hoses, ketch-all trays, 50 pound bags of dog food, dog beds and supplies, leashes, roll-around mop/feed carts, various hand tools, rakes, shovels, rolling cages, vacuum cleaner, mop, poop scooper, feed bins/containers, trash cans, prescription medications, hazardous materials.

Physical Demands:  While performing the duties of this job, the animal care technician will occasionally be required to climb, balance, and run; will regularly be required to talk or hear; and will frequently be required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, smell, and to lift up to fifty pounds. Special vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
 

Work Environment:  The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently be exposed to dogs, outdoor weather conditions, wet or humid conditions, animal waste/blood and cleaning chemicals. The noise level for a kennel environment is loud.
